On Thursday 12th January, 2023, our Embassy was honoured to lodge eleven (11) texts by Vincentian authors with Taiwan’s National Central Library/ NCL. This one-hour (10:30-11:30 am) Book Donation Ceremony was addressed by the Director General of the NCL, Dr. Tseng; H.E. Ambassador Bowman; P.M. Dr. The Hon. Ralph Gonsalves (via video); Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ambassador Alexander Yui and SVG’s Cultural Ambassador and author, Ms. Peggy Carr, who did two short readings from her below-named texts.
There was also a delightful reading of Hayden Billingy’s lyrical text, FLIPPITY FLOPPITY WING by Sophia Tan and Albert Yeh. The texts donated are Diary of a Prime Minister and Our Caribbean Civilisation and its Political Prospects by Dr. Ralph Gonsalves; Honey and Lime and Shape of a Warrior by Peggy Carr; James Mitchell: Beyond The Islands by Sir James Mitchell; The Green Legacy of St. Vincent and the Grenadines-the King’s Hill Forest Act of 1791 and the St. Vincent Botanic Garden compiled with an Introduction by H.E. Ambassador Inga Rhonda King; Doctor Grandad- A Caribbean Doctor and His little Patients and Family by Dr. Sir Cecil Cyrus; Call It Our Village by Margaret Soleyn; Flippity Floppity Wing by Hayden Billingy; Nia’s Summer Vacation in The Caribbean by Danielle Fairbairn-Bland and Global Wings Flying to St. Vincent and the Grenadines where the main contributor was Nicketha Toney.
Our Embassy extends its gratitude to these aforementioned authors; the NCL and our supportive colleagues, teachers and friends who made this Ceremony a meaningful success.
