On the afternoon of August 7th, President Tsai Ing-wen accompanied by Vice President Chen Chien-jen and Mrs. Chen, met with Saint Vincent and the Grenadines’s (SVG) Prime Minister, Dr. the Honourable Ralph E. Gonsalves and Mrs. Gonsalves, and accepted the credentials of new SVG Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Taiwan, Andrea Clare Bowman.

It is hoped that with SVG’s Embassy in Taiwan, our bilateral relations will only grow stronger. We look forward to Prime Minister Gonsalves’s continued support for Taiwan’s international participation, so that together, SVG and Taiwan can make even greater contributions to the common good.

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines’s first ambassador to Taiwan, H.E. Andrea Bowman has excellent academic qualifications and experience. She has served as the Headmistress of SVG’s Girls’ High School for a long time, and has been an educator for over 40 years. Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Taiwan have been diplomatic allies since 1981.

Our countries’ cooperation and exchanges in all aspects are becoming closer and more diverse. In order to strengthen the relationship with Taiwan, SVG’s first embassy in Asia was established in Taiwan. This shows that the bi-lateral relationship between our countries has taken a concrete step and has been deepened.

The embassy will continue to extend the friendship and cooperation between our countries for the benefit of all of our citizens.

  • On August 15, 1981, Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, the Right Honourable Milton Cato signed a statement on the establishment of diplomatic relations with Taiwan in Taipei.
  • In March 1983, Taiwan established an embassy in Kingstown, the capital city of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
  • On May 15, 2001, the Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr. the Honourable Ralph E. Gonsalves led a delegation to Taiwan for a seven-day visit.
  • On September 5 and 6, 2001, President of the Executive Yuan, Zhang Junxiong led a delegation to visit Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
  • On August 6, 2003, Foreign Minister Jane Youxin led a delegation to visit Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.  On August 8, Jane Youxin attended the 7th Foreign Ministers’ Meeting of the Republic of China and the Four Allied Countries in the Eastern Caribbean held in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.  On September 8, 2003, the Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr. the Honourable Ralph E. Gonsalves and his wife, arrived in Taiwan for a five-day visit.
  •  In September 2005, President Chen Shui-bian led a delegation to visit Saint Vincent.
  •  On June 5, 2006, the Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Dr the Honourable Ralph E Gonsalves and his wife, arrived in Taiwan for a five-day visit.
  •  On July 30, 2007, the Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and his wife, arrived in Taiwan for a seven-day visit.
  • On July 20, 2008, a 5-member delegation led by the Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines arrived in Taiwan for a visit.  
  • On August 26, 2008, Sir Louis Straker, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Mrs. Straker, along with the Minister of Tourism of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Mr Glen Beache and Mrs Beache visited Taiwan for 6 days.  
  • Indeed, our Prime Minister Dr the Honourable Ralph E Gonsalves has paid ten (10) official visits to Taiwan within the last twenty (20) years. 

SVG SPEAKS UP FOR TAIWAN

From 2001 to 2021, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has staunchly supported the inclusion and participation of Taiwan’s 23 million inhabitants in the UN’s World Health Assembly. In 2017, the vociferous support of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines’s Minister of Health, Wellness and the Environment, the Honourable Luke Browne went viral as a result of its pertinence and resonance.

Visa

According to the regulations of the Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), nationals of the Republic of China (Taiwan) are allowed to enter SVG without a visa for six (6) months. For those who plan to go to SVG for a period longer than 6 months, kindly download, print and complete the Visa Application form and take it with your other travel documents. 

Passport

The Embassy of St. Vincent and the Grenadines provides passport application and renewal services. If nationals of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines have their passports suspended owing to loss or damage, please download the relevant application form and complete it. The applicant then needs to visit the embassy in person in order to have the requisite documents authenticated and to pay the required fees.
